Tottenham Hotspur: Fans don’t want club to sign Thomas Lemar from Atletico Madrid

Tottenham Hotspur have opened talks with Atletico Madrid about potentially signing forward Thomas Lemar, that is according to a report from French news outlet Foot Mercato, via Ricky Sacks.

The French international joined the La Liga club from AS Monaco back in the summer of 2018, but it would be fair to say that things haven’t really gone to plan for him at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Indeed in 64 appearances for the Spanish club he has managed to score just three goals (Transfermarkt), with each of those coming in the 18/19 campaign meaning that he is yet to net this term (Transfermarkt). Right now, Tottenham are well-stocked in wide areas when you consider the likes of Son, Erik Lamela, Giovani Lo Celso, Ryan Sessegnon and Lucas Moura are all able to operate there.

In fact, when looking at the stats on WhoScored, Lemar hasn’t outperformed any of the names mentioned (aside from making .1 more key pass per game than Sessegnon) in any attacking metic this season.

Having started just nine league matches it is thought that Lemar isn’t happy at Atletico and could, therefore, be on the move this January.

If Spurs do try to sign the 24-year-old then they are likely to face competition, with north London rivals Arsenal and Ligue 1 side Lyon both interested according to AS.

It seems that plenty of Spurs fans aren’t too keen on the idea of signing Lemar however, with several pointing to the fact that he is currently injured as a reason not to bring him in.

Here is what some had to say on Twitter…
