Many Tottenham Hotspur fans are enraged with Toby Alderweireld after the central defender said that he was thinking about returning to Belgium once his contract expires, according to Sporza, relayed by Ricky Sacks.
The 31-year old has made more appearances than fellow centre-backs Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen and Japhet Tanganga this Premier League season (Transfermarkt), and betters each player in many key stats for players in his position.
Alderweireld has averaged more clearances and is dispossessed the least number of times, whilst also boasting the most average passes and key passes in addition to long and through balls, according to Whoscored.
His qualities defensively as well as being able to pass out from the back relatively comfortably have earned Alderweireld the number of matches he has played in the top flight this campaign ahead of his teammates.
Despite making it clear that he was thinking about a move home at the end of his time at Spurs, some supporters were still enraged about the Belgian international’s comments and have expressed their negative thoughts on Twitter. One fan branded him a ‘snake’ whilst others called for the north London club to sell him.
