It was not a positive start to 2020 for Tottenham Hotspur as they succumbed to a disappointing 1-0 defeat against Southampton on New Year’s Day.
And it wasn’t just the result that would have left Spurs supporters feeling down in the dumps, with midfielder Tanguy Ndombele picking up yet another injury.

Indeed, he lasted just 25 minutes on the pitch at St Mary’s before having to be replaced by Giovani Lo Celso (BBC Sport).
The Frenchman became the club’s record signing in the summer, arriving from Lyon for a fee of £53.8 million (BBC Sport).
But he has so far failed to make much of an impact at the club due to his persistent injury problems. He has only managed to start in 10 of Spurs’ opening 21 Premier League matches (Transfermarkt) and, after the game, Jose Mourinho lamented the fact that the midfielder is “always injured” (Metro).
Plenty of Tottenham fans are growing increasingly frustrated at the amount of injuries the 22-year-old is sustaining and many of them took to Twitter to express their concerns over his fitness. One supporter was even quick to compare him to Erik Lamela, who has also had his injury problems at Tottenham.
Here is what some had to say…
That’s not piling in. That’s fact and it is concerning

Jose, just saying what every Spurs fan thinks, especially the ones that have travelled and paid big money to watch him otter it. Just sell him.

Ndombele’s gonna be a complete bust, isn’t he? Lamela 2.0

It is worrying how regularly Ndombele gets injured
— Heather Jordan (@HeatherJordan3) January 1, 2020
Ndombele’s fitness is disgusting to be honest. What a waste of Levy’s money.
Don’t care if he has one brilliant game. Fact is he’s unfit and doesn’t play many games.

He’s not wrong. There’s plenty of hope for Tanguy but he needs serious conditioning work. Dembele got to a point where he couldn’t play regularly. Ndombele is meant to be his replacement and at 22 already has same issues. Frustrating. https://t.co/vKlSuxfLXs
