Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Benfica left-back Alex Grimaldo in the summer transfer window, that is according to a report from Portuguese outlet Record, via Ricky Sacks.
It is suggested that manager Jose Mourinho is extremely keen to bring in the 24-year-old Spaniard, but that Daniel Levy is unwilling to meet the €35 million (£30.7 million) valuation of the player.
A left-back is likely to be high on the list of priorities for Mourinho, with the club reportedly willing to allow Danny Rose to leave on a permanent basis in the off-season following his loan spell at Newcastle United (The Chronicle).
Grimaldo has been a regular for Benfica this term, starting 39 times in all competitions. He has had a fine year, chipping in with a very respectable eight assists in that time and helping the team keep 17 clean sheets all told (Transfermarkt).
It seems that plenty of fans would be keen on signing the defender and are therefore annoyed at Levy for his reported refusal to pay the asking price to get him through the door.
