Tottenham Hotspur: Fans gush over update on Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic

Tottenham Hotspur are leading the race to sign Barcelona star Ivan Rakitic, via Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish outlet claims Rakitic looks likely to leave the Nou Camp in the upcoming transfer window as his contract with the Blaugrana is set to expire at the end of next season.

Mundo Deportivo goes on to add the Lilywhites could face a transfer battle in the summer, with Inter Milan, Juventus and Atletico Madrid also linked to the Croatian midfielder.

Although Jose Mourinho has the likes of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Erik Lamela at his disposal, the Tottenham boss is on the hunt for a new option in the midfield, and the World Cup runner-up’s experience could prove vital as the North London club look to add to the trophy cabinet in the future.

Ever since arriving at the La Liga giants from Sevilla FC for £16.2m, the 32-year-old has made just shy of 300 appearances for Barca, scoring 34 goals, creating 41 assists, winning the Spanish top flight title four times and lifting the coveted Champions League trophy. His current market value is priced at £18m via Transfermarkt.

As expected, many Spurs fans gushed over Rakitic’s “superb” transfer update on social media, with one fan tweeting he is “better than Winks,” and another adding he is “extremely underrated.”
