Some Tottenham Hotspur fans were raving about Kieran Trippier’s performance for Atletico Madrid against Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League last night.
The Spanish side triumphed 3-2 after extra-time and 4-2 on aggregate to knock the holders out. Diego Simeone’s team had to be defensively strong and Trippier helped with this, up against Sadio Mane who did not register a goal or an assist. Indeed, Mane could only manage to successfully dribble past players in five out of his 10 attempts, and Trippier was only dribbled past once in the entire game (via Sofascore).
Trippier – who left Tottenham in the summer of course – was also crucial in stopping Andrew Robertson scoring with a vital piece of defending that saw the Scotsman hit the bar instead (full highlights via YouTube).
