Loads of Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting on social media to recent comments made by Mauricio Pochettino, after the Spurs head coach addressed his hopes to secure trophies with the north London outfit.
Pochettino has been in charge of Tottenham since May 2014 and has overseen 284 games across competitions, winning 157 while scoring 542 goals (TransferMarkt).
The Argentine also led Spurs to the EFL Cup final in his maiden campaign in north London, before going on to reach two FA Cup semi-finals and the Champions League final earlier in the year.
However, the 47-year-old tasted defeat in each final and semi-final, and has only beaten one opponent in his last five Premier League games in charge – coming in a 4-0 rout of Crystal Palace, two weeks after dropping two points away to north London rivals Arsenal in a game where Tottenham held a 2-0 lead.
Pochettino has now conceded that the loss in Madrid to Liverpool was one of the ‘two biggest disappointments’ of his footballing career, and that he is still ‘suffering’ from the result bordering on four months later.
Speaking on the matter, in quotes reported by the Telegraph, Pochettino said: “Football, for me, is about the glory. There is nothing more important than the glory. When you win, how you feel… there is not another thing you can find like it.
“Of course I am suffering. This is my sixth season here and I am in an unbelievable environment here. The training ground is amazing and we have the best stadium in the world. But football is about glory; it is about winning.
“Of course, you can be frustrated and disappointed sometimes. The challenge is to get back there and I told you we are going to fight to try to make this possible to try to change the history of this club. Of course, this is going to be difficult, but football is not an ordinary business… difficult times can happen and arrive and you have to have different tools to fight against this situation.”
Since Pochettino’s quotes were published, Tottenham fans have offered an outpour of support for their head coach, with many sharing that they feel he is the right man for the job.
Not every Spurs supporter has backed the Argentine, though, with a portion of those reacting to their key man’s recent comments by suggesting that vast changes are needed in North London for a first trophy since the 2008 EFL Cup.
