Jose Mourinho’s comments about Troy Parrott not being ready to feature in the Tottenham Hotspur first team are a challenge to try and get him to respond on the training ground, according to a report from the Evening Standard.
However, the same publication also suggests that the Republic of Ireland international is yet to do that, hence why he remains out of the picture.
Spurs are currently in the midst of a striking crisis with both Harry Kane and Son Heung-min out due to injuries. That means that Parrott is the only recognised striker left available, but instead of using him, Mourinho opted to play Steven Bergwijn as a centre-forward in their recent game against Chelsea (Transfermarkt).
The 18-year-old has been on fire at youth level this season, scoring six times in four UEFA Youth League outings whilst also netting a couple of goals in the Premier League 2. However, first team opportunities have been limited, with his only league appearance being a five-minute cameo against Burnley in December (Transfermarkt).
Many Spurs fans have been reacting to the report which suggests that Parrott hasn’t been doing enough in training following Mourinho’s comments, with most urging him to put more effort into training and force his way into the first team.
