Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that they will not be using the government’s furlough relief scheme to pay their staff in what is a U-turn on their original stance (BBC Sport).
The club originally announced that all 550 of their non-football staff would take a 20% pay cut as a result of recent events and that they would be using the scheme which sees the government paying the other 80% of their employee’s wages (BBC Sport).
However, they have now reversed that decision, confirming that all non-playing staff will receive 100% of their salaries for April and May. Added to that, only board members will now take a pay cut at the club.
Daniel Levy said that the criticism the club had received for their original decision on the matter has led to their U-turn. He admitted that he regretted any concern initially caused and hoped that the work they are set to do in the coming weeks would make supporters proud of the club.
