West Ham United fear that they may now miss out on signing Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes, with the Guardian reporting that the Portuguese has now been offered to their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.
It had looked as though the Hammers were set to sign Fernandes after Sky Sports reported that they had agreed an 18-month loan deal with Benfica for the 21-year-old with no option or obligation to buy him. However, there is now another twist in the saga with new reports suggesting he could yet go to Spurs.
Jose Mourinho has something of an injury crisis on his hands at the moment and this week he has seen both Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko ruled out until April. Therefore they may see the opportunity to take Fernandes worthwhile to strengthen their depleted squad.
It would also fit in with the player’s wish to move to London where he has family. Whether a deal happens or not remains to be seen, but it is certainly an interesting twist in the tale.
Plenty of Spurs fans have been reacting to this news on Twitter, with quite a few admitting that they would love their club to sign the Portuguese under-21 international. Here is what some had to say…

No brainer, it would be an 18 month loan with option, plenty of time to see how he develops.
