Tottenham Hotspur are debating whether to make a move for Benfica striker Haris Seferovic ahead of the transfer deadline, that is according to a report from Portuguese news outlet O Jogo.
It is suggested that Spurs could face competition for the 27-year-old from Premier League rivals West Ham and that Benfica would want a fee of £25 million for his services.
Seferovic has played for a number of clubs across Europe, but his goal-scoring record at the majority of those was far from prolific. Indeed he managed just 19 goals in 96 appearances at Eintracht Frankfurt, four in 40 games for Real Sociedad and one in 12 for Fiorentina (Transfermarkt).
But he did enjoy a superb season in Portugal last season, netting 23 goals in 29 Liga NOS appearances whilst also providing six assists (Transfermarkt).
The goals have dried up this term however and he has managed to find the back of the net just twice in 17 appearances (Transfermarkt). He is a full international for Switzerland and has won 64 caps, but again his record in front of goal isn’t the best with just 18 strikes in that time (Transfermarkt).
Spurs may need a conventional striker with Harry Kane out until at least April with injury, but it seems that plenty of their fans do not want Seferovic to be the man to step into the breach. That is probably because he has never been a consistent goal scorer, apart from in the 18/19 season for Benfica.
Here is what some had to say on Twitter about potentially signing the Swiss…

No we don’t want him. We are better with sonny or lucas as our striker but not him

He gets many chances but misses most of them (I watch him, when he plays for Switzerland)
I hope we don’t sign him— MayTheFoyth🇨🇭 (@PassionThfc) January 28, 2020
