Inter Milan are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen in the summer transfer window, according to a report from the Evening Standard.
The 32-year-old’s current contract with Spurs is set to expire at the end of the campaign and, as it stands, an extension hasn’t been agreed between the club and the Belgian international. He is therefore free to speak to teams from overseas and the Italian outfit are thought to have already made contact with the defender’s camp regarding a move.
Vertonghen has been a stalwart for Spurs since joining from Ajax in 2012, featuring 309 times for them in all competitions and scoring 13 goals (Transfermarkt). However, he has recently seen his game-time start to decrease under Jose Mourinho and he has not been included in their starting 11 in four of their last eight fixtures in all competitions (Transfermarkt).
It seems that plenty of Spurs fans feel that it is now time for Vertonghen to move on to pastures new, with many taking to Twitter to suggest that a transfer to Inter Milan would be the best thing for all concerned.
