Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to sign a new striker before the transfer deadline, that is according to a report from the Evening Standard.
Jose Mourinho has significantly bolstered his squad this January, bringing in Gedson Fernandes on loan from Benfica and buying Steven Bergwijn from PSV Eindhoven (Transfermarkt) whilst also making Giovani Lo Celso’s loan move permanent (BBC Sport).
It was thought, however, that they would also be adding a new striker to their ranks due to the fact that Harry Kane has a hamstring injury which is likely to keep him out until April at the earliest (tottenhamhotspur.com).
But according to the Evening Standard, there will be no new centre-forward joining, despite links to the likes of Olivier Giroud (Sky Sports) and Islam Slimani (The Sun).
That would leave Spurs without a recognised senior striker for the next few months, meaning that someone like Son Heung-min or Lucas Moura would probably have to fill in.
Plenty of Spurs fans are absolutely fuming having read the report, with many suggesting that it would be a disgrace not to sign a new centre-forward for the second half of the season. Here is what some had to say about it on Twitter…
We had 1 job

Shocking.. bet we loan out Parrott too just to make it worse

This will be terrible. Sure their aren’t many options out there now, but that’s all our own doing. We can’t go into rest of season with no actual centre forward. Our season depends on it. Why not take a punt on Arnautovic or Daniel Sturridge on loan? We must act-criminal not to

Absolute disgrace! They had a whole month to find one! But Levy only interested in the cheapest player.
