Tottenham made a heroic comeback on Tuesday night to avoid embarrassment against Olympiacos, but it proved that new boss Jose Mourinho is going to have to work hard to stop his team conceding so often. They leaked two against the Greek side and two against West Ham on Saturday despite being 3-0 up, and that’s not a hallmark of a Mourinho team.
Left-back Ben Davies added to their defensive worries when it was confirmed by the club that he’d sustained ligament damage to his left ankle during the game on Saturday. He’s only made four starts so far in the Premier league this season, but his inclusion in Mourinho’s first starting 11 against West Ham suggests the manager rates him.
Assessments will continue to see if he needs surgery, but the club did say he’s expected to undergo an “extended period of rehabilitation”. The news was posted to Spurs’ official Twitter page and fans reacted in shock at the news.
Following ongoing examination and assessment over the past few days, we can confirm that @Ben_Davies33 sustained ligament damage to his left ankle during Saturday’s win against West Ham. #THFC ⚪️ #COYS
