Christian Eriksen has opened up about his Tottenham Hotspur exit following his move to Inter Milan in January.
Eriksen admitted he would have liked to have left the North London club under “different circumstances” but reiterated he has a better chance of winning silverware with the Serie A giants. The Dane stayed at Spurs whilst running down the final 12 months of his contract, despite the fact there was no apparent move in sight.
Antonio Conte’s Black and Blues took full advantage of the situation and signed the playmaker for £17m at the start of the year.
Speaking to Danish outlet Jyllands Posten (via Football Italia), the midfielder said: “It seemed the right move for me, as they were very eager to sign me, and that’s important for a player to know he is wanted.
“Some Tottenham fans got angry when I said in a BBC interview that I had a better chance of winning something at Inter, but that is the truth, there are many stronger teams in England.
He concluded: “I would’ve liked to leave in different circumstances, but that’s not how football works.”
Eriksen went on to talk about living under lockdown in Italy, keeping himself entertained during the global pandemic, and how he is coping with training restrictions in a wide-ranging interview.
Who should Tottenham Hotspur sign in the summer?
Willian
Serhou Guirassy
Ever since he arrived at the San Siro Stadium in January, the 28-year-old has only played in 8 games for Conte’s side, scoring 1 goal and picking up 1 assist so far. In contrast, he made over 300 appearances for the Lilywhites, bagging 69 goals and producing 89 assists.
His current market value is estimated at £61.2m but it remains to be seen if he will achieving his dream of winning a trophy with the Nerazzurri.
Unsurprisingly, many Spurs fans slammed the Danish international’s comments on social media, with one supporter tweeting “Lo Celso is double the player.”

A shame. Mixture of him being woeful for 9 months, what he said, and fans being unforgiving (and forgetful of his previous years). We'll do well to find a player who consistently creates even half the chances he did.

It's not that. It's how he's lacking focus in so many games especially in the away match at Olympiakos. He's heart felt missing even in the Champions League final. It felt like he was playing for the sake of being played by the manager. It felt like pre season for him for months

One of my all time favourite players. But I wish him nothing but failure for the rest of his career now

Different circumstances?!??!! You’re the one who said it was time for a new challenge!! You CREATED the circumstances of your exit! Go practice clearing the first defender on corner kicks…

The fans that were mad at you were also the same fans turning up week in week out watching you jog around, back out of tackles and not put any effort in, in his last 12 months he ruined everything he has done for us!
