Tottenham Hotspur have been looking at potentially trying to sign AFC Bournemouth centre-back Nathan Ake in the January transfer window, that is according to a report from Sky Sports.

It is thought that Spurs are keen on bringing in a left-sided central defender, with West Ham’s Issa Diop also being considered as an option.
Ake has been a key figure for the Cherries since joining them from Chelsea back in 2017 and this season alone he started each of their opening 16 Premier League games before picking up a hamstring injury which has forced him to miss their last four (Transfermarkt).
The 24-year-old’s performances have been pretty impressive too, indeed he has averaged 1.2 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 4.4 clearances per game whilst also scoring one goal and providing one assist (WhoScored).
According to the Athletic, Spurs could face competition from Chelsea for Ake and the Blues are thought to have first refusal on the Dutchman as they have a £40 million buy-back clause on him.
But if Tottenham were able to get him, then he would certainly be a popular signing amongst their fanbase. Here is what a few had to say on Twitter after seeing that the club were linked with him…

Ake would be best bet. Has PL experience. Home grown from Chelsea I believe, which checks another box. Left footed and good with ball and in air. He’s a perfect Verntonghen replacement.
