Speaking to talkSPORT, ex-Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon believes Tottenham target and ex-club icon Gareth Bale could leave the Galacticos on a free transfer this summer – with the La Liga giants potentially willing to gift chairman Daniel Levy a bargain deal in hopes of re-signing the Welshman.
Bale, who has been linked with a return to Spurs over the last season, is now an odds-on favourite to link up at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after Calderon’s exclusive update to talkSPORT – with Sky Sports journalist Fabrizio Romano claiming on the Last Word on Spurs podcast it’s a move the club wish to make happen.

However, due to the ‘difficult‘ nature of negotiating a deal, as Romano put it, Levy and co were facing potential stumbling blocks if they ever hoped to bring Bale back to north London.
Ex-UEFA chief Calderon has now gifted the Lilywhites some hope of securing a move with his latest statement indicating Real could let him go on a free deal, particularly when taking into account Spurs’ financial issues brought upon by a global pandemic (The Athletic).
That being said, there could still be an issue surrounding the ‘unbelievable‘ 84-cap international‘s reported wages, with Bale currently earning an astronomical figure of around £350,000-a-week after tax.

Calderon also confirmed that an unnamed Premier League club attempted to sign the attacker last summer, submitting an £89 million bid which was promptly rejected.
Bale still has a contract running until 2022 with the club, but Calderon’s latest verdict is, if all other options were exhausted, Real may let him leave for nothing – a notion which would excite plenty of Spurs fans.
