Georges-Kevin N’Koudou has revealed in an interview with Sabah (via Sport Witness) that he was pleased to have left Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
Having completed a move to Turkish outfit Besiktas, the winger has been talking about his decision to play for the Istanbul giants and believes it is a fresh start for him.
“I think there’s a new life starting for me after Tottenham. I am very pleased with my decision. The fans are absolutely fantastic. I’ve been also told about that before I came here, but still, I am very surprised. The atmosphere is amazing inside the stadium,” he said.
The 24-year-old hardly had the desired impact that Mauricio Pochettino would have initially planned for him when he signed him for £9m back in 2016 (BBC) in a transfer that took 40 days to complete.
The winger only played 27 times for Tottenham in the three years he was at the club, scoring one goal and providing two assists and the possibility of adding to those tallies was always going to be a difficult task.
Pochettino has the likes of Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min, Erik Lamela and Ryan Sessegnon all available to him in the same position, meaning N’Koudou would have likely found his place further down the pecking order.
Indeed, he has been slowly eased into the Besiktas side so far, having featured as a substitute in two matches in the Super Lig (Transfermarkt), perhaps, proving that he made the right decision to leave Spurs permanently.
It is hardly a surprise to hear those comments from N’Koudou and he is, perhaps, right to feel that his decision to leave Tottenham was the right thing for him to do.
His future in north London looked pretty bleak and his career had clearly stalled, but it would appear Besiktas are prepared to give him the opportunity to get it back on track.
