Tottenham Hotspur: Inter Milan defender Danilo D’Ambrosio tipped for January Spurs move

Writing for football.london, journalist Colin Millar has tipped Inter Milan defender Danilo D’Ambrosio as a viable option for Spurs as the January transfer window looms – especially with the Italian out of contract at the end of this season.

D’Ambrosio, who once ignited ex-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino’s interest, with the Argentine fan favourite reportedly eyeing a swoop back in 2015, could now be an option for new manager Jose Mourinho as he looks to strengthen his squad further.

D’Ambrosio back on Spurs radar?

The 32-year-old could leave as a free agent at the end of 2020/2021, potentially heaping pressure on the Nerazzurri to sell for a cheap fee in the winter window if he does not put pen to paper on an extension.

Millar, writing for football.london, claims this could alert Daniel Levy and co to a bargain defensive option who can play in a variety of positions – with the Italy international attracting praise for his showings as of late.

Football Italia chief correspondent Richard Hall waxed lyrical over his ‘incredible‘ defending, and D’Amborosio has also impressed by the numbers at club level when given the chance.

Despite starting just three Serie A games so far under Antonio Conte, in that time, he has averaged an impressive 92% pass accuracy out from defence (WhoScored) – displaying a cool and composed head which could entice Mourinho.

Transfer Tavern take

The Spurs boss is currently stacked at right-back with Serge Aurier and Matt Doherty, but D’Ambrosio’s tactical versatility could prove useful given he is comfortable both on the left and even at centre-back.

If Tottenham fail with another January approach for Milan Skriniar, perhaps Inter’s less star-studded defender could be a sound alternative.
