Tottenham Hotspur are planning to make a move for Ajax winger David Neres in the summer, according to CalcioMercato.
In 6 starts and 4 substitute appearances across the Eredivisie and Champions League, the Brazilian has 2 goals and an assist so far this season, as per WhoScored.
It seems as though this is enough for Spurs to challenge Liverpool to sign the 22-year-old:

However, there are many Spurs fans who have been left confused by this approach, as while not all of them will question his ability, they don’t think Neres is what the club needs.
The consensus is that signing defenders should be the main transfer focus, rather than signing yet more attack-minded players.
A need for defensive recruitment could become even more severe during the summer, with the contracts of both Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen set to come to an end at this season’s culmination, as per Transfermarkt.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the rumour, including posts from bemused Spurs fans, can be seen below:

Are we turning into Arsenal? We need a defence, not more attackers.
