Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has stated that Nuno Espirito Santo was "really unhappy" with the events which occurred involving the club during the international break.

The Lowdown: South American problems

Prior to the recent break, Spurs and Nuno made a perfect start to life together with three wins in three to top the Premier League table.

However, due to Argentina and Colombia being on England's red list for travel, Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Davinson Sanchez all missed the Crystal Palace defeat at the weekend after travelling to South America against their club's wishes.

Spurs also had to do without the injured Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn for the trip to Selhurst Park, and Nuno was not happy with the events of the last fortnight.

The Latest: Nuno fumes over events of international break

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Gold discussed the feeling amongst the Spurs head coach about the recent events involving those players.

The journalist said of Nuno: "I understand he's been really unhappy with everything that happened over the international break, not just the mess with the players who are now stuck in Croatia, the South Americans. But also the injuries the players have come back with."

The 47-year-old was forced to start Harry Winks and Lucas Moura at Selhurst Park due to the absences of others, and missing a number of key players cost them as goals from Wilfried Zaha and Odsonne Edouard (two) earned Palace all three points.

The Verdict: Wake-up call

It is fair to say that the Palace defeat is an early-season wake-up call for Spurs and Nuno after such an impressive start to the campaign, a result which should bring a few individuals back down to earth.

With Rennes, Chelsea, Wolves and Arsenal all coming up in the next two weeks, the tough tests keep coming for Tottenham.

Saturday's defeat has seen Spurs drop to sixth after Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Brighton all won over the weekend, and a poor run this month could really put a damper on the start to the new reign at the club.

Nuno's unhappiness over the events of the international break is understandable and he is right to be unhappy, but he still has a relatively good squad to choose from going forward and they will be hoping to return to winning ways in midweek before Sunday's all-London clash with Chelsea.
