Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have mocked Erik Lamela on his birthday by commenting on a @SpursOfficial tweet and bringing up his injury troubles at the club.
The Argentinian has managed to start just nine games for Spurs this season, with a further twelve cameos off of the bench, making his total appearances this term 23 (via WhoScored). Furthermore, he has only managed four goals and three assists in a campaign which has seen top goalscorers Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son miss chunks because of injury.
In a season where the north-Londoners have played 39 times in all competitions, 23 appearances may not seem that bad, but he has missed 97 games for Spurs through injury since the 2013/14 season (via Transfermarkt). If Lamela cannot improve his fitness, Jose Mourinho will have a decision to make in the summer transfer window about the player’s future.
