The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for a few more players to come through the door at White Hart Lane…
It’s been a decent day at Tottenham, with Serge Aurier coming through the door and Fernando Llorente also touted with a move to London.
Our landlord doesn’t think it could get any better for Mauricio Pochettino, but according to the Evening Standard, there is – at the very least – a chance that it could.
The Evening Standard reports that the club are monitoring Andre Gomes, who is said to be available for a season-long loan. Currently playing for Barcelona, it is noted that he is unlikely to feature much in Spain, and so a temporary move away could be a good option.
In truth, he likely wouldn’t get too much game time in London, either, but that doesn’t make Tottenham’s interest meaningless. They do need depth, and given the number of competitions they’re playing in this season, he would certainly get minutes.
He has struggled in La Liga, and so they won’t want to spend big to land him. A short-term deal would allow them to properly assess him and get an idea of what he can do.
With the likes of Dembele, Dier and Wanyama in there, if Gomes is thrown into the mix – Tottenham’s midfield could be unstoppable.
Landlord’s Verdict
Andre Gomes has looked very good on the international stage, and he looked impressive before moving to Barcelona – but it appears as though the stage has been a little too much for him.
At Tottenham, he would be able to rebuild his career and Mauricio Pochettino’s management would certainly help him.
Tottenham’s interest at present is just that, and no bid is on the horizon as of yet. But it’s deadline day, and anything can happen.
