According to Sport (via Sport Witness), Tottenham are looking at making a bid for Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite this summer.

The Lowdown: Striker needed

Harry Kane's future at Spurs remains uncertain - he has already made it clear he wants to leave the club this summer (Sky Sports) and there is still time left for a deal to be completed.

While his departure would leave Spurs desperate for a new forward, a new striker is still needed even if Kane does stay in north London, given that Carlos Vinícius' loan move was not made permanent and there is little to no depth behind the talisman.

The Latest: Spurs eye Braithwaite

As per this latest report, Spurs are interested in signing in Braithwaite from the Blaugrana and the player would be tempted by the Premier League.

It says that the Denmark international could leave the Camp Nou if Spurs make an irrefutable offer before the end of the transfer window.

The Verdict: Good option as a back up

Braithwaite's rise has come out of the blue. Less than three years ago, he was playing for Middlesbrough in the Championship - now, he is turning out for one of the best clubs in the world.

In 55 games in Catalonia, he has managed ten goals and provided five assists - he has found the back of the net 95 times throughout his career (Transfermarkt).

The 30-year-old would be a serviceable addition as a back-up striker for Kane. However, if he were to be signed to be the number one forward, Spurs would have an issue - Braithwaite is nowhere near the standard required to replace an outgoing superstar. In that case, Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici would need to do some more business.

In other news, Tottenham want to sign this Serie A midfielder for free.
