Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has not ruled out the possibility of a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the future, having been heavily linked with the Ligue 1 leaders before returning to Lyon on loan last week, as per football.london.

The Lowdown: Ndombele’s return to Lyon

The France international returned to his former club on loan until the end of the season, with Spurs receiving a £1.28m fee for his services. Lyon have the option of making the move permanent, with a reported fee of £54m needed to enact the transfer. Otherwise, the Frenchman will likely return to Hotspur Way in the summer.

The Frenchman made his return to Lyon in their 2-0 loss to AS Monaco at the weekend after coming on at half-time and impressing with a 91% passing success rate, along with completing all of his long ball and dribble attempts.

Ndombele was one of four Tottenham departures on transfer deadline day, with Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso also leaving on loan deals, whilst Dele Alli made the permanent move to Everton.

The Latest: Ndombele’s PSG transfer admission

Speaking in an interview with Julien Maynard at Telefoot (via football.london), Ndombele has opened up about his January transfer saga and his potential move to Ligue 1 giants PSG.

He explained: "It is true that I was associated with PSG, there were discussions. But between the discussions and the act, there is a long way. It was complicated with Paris for an exchange, they made it clear to me after a while."

However, the midfielder failed to rule out a move to the French capital in the future, saying: "I listened and I respect Paris' decision, I couldn't do otherwise. A part of fate? Yes, maybe I shouldn't go, maybe in the future, someday, I don't know."

The Verdict: Permanent exit likely

Due to the global pandemic, the TV rights debacle in the French league and failing to qualify for the Champions League, L’Equipe reported (via Get French Football News) that Lyon are in a financial crisis, with an estimated deficit of €185m (£156.16m).

As a result, it seems highly unlikely that the club will be able to make Ndombele’s loan permanent in the summer window, with a £54m fee required to do so.

Therefore, with the news linking the midfielder with a move to PSG, it would not be surprising if we saw the Spurs 'maverick' - as Tim Sherwood called him - leave N17 in the summer on a permanent move to the French giants.

Indeed, after the humiliation of being jeered off the pitch by his own fans against Morecambe last month, and given his comments about a possible move to Paris, there appears to be no way back for the 25-year-old at Tottenham.
