According to the reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are still trying to sign Adama Traore in the January window. However, Wolves manager Bruno Lage is now 'pushing to keep him' at the Molineux until the end of the season.

The Lowdown: Traore struggling this season

Despite having featured in 19 Premier League games this season, only ten of these saw Traore in the starting XI, with the majority of which coming at beginning of the campaign. Previously utilised for his ‘unplayable’ pace and chaotic attacking threat by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Traore has particularly struggled in front of goal this season.

The Spaniard netted his first Premier League goal of the season in Wolves’ latest fixture against Southampton, as Lage’s side won the game in an impressive 3-1 victory. However, the fact remains that Traore is not a prolific goal-scorer - in 159 games in the English top flight, the winger has found the back of the net just eight times.

The Latest: Lage U-turn

When Tottenham's interest was first reported, it was believed that the Wolves manager was happy to cash in on Traore.

According to Fabrizio Romano however, ‘Tottenham are still trying to sign Adama Traore in January’, but Lage is now fighting off these approaches.

Despite this, Spurs are still dead set on bringing Traore to the club, as Conte has requested that Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy sign a winger.

The Verdict: Over Lage's head?

Given that Traore is not a regular starter under Lage, and with his contract set to expire in 18 months time, it begs the question whether the Midlands club will choose to cash in whilst his value is high – with the board potentially undermining the wishes of the manager.

Klopp previously described the winger’s speed as ‘undefendable in moments’. This characteristic would be perfect for Conte, who requires a new right wing-back to fit his five-at-the-back formation, who can also add attacking flair to his Spurs side.

The clock is ticking if Tottenham want to secure the 25-year-old’s services this month, having entered the final two weeks of the January transfer window, but the time is also counting down on Wolves' chances of making a decent profit.
