Transfer Flashback: Davy Klaasen to Everton

In June last year, Everton made the swoop for Ajax captain Davy Klaassen and signed him for £23.6m

The midfielder was a three time Eredivise winner, a Netherlands international, and a former Dutch Footballer of the Year. He had a brilliant pedigree, and at the age of 24, the future was ahead of him, and Everton for that matter. It was a chance to link up with fellow Dutchman Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park, and things were looking very bright for The Blues.

Everton fans were of course excited about this deal, in what was a very bust summer for them. Although they saw it as inevitable that star striker Romelu Lukaku would be leaving, the club were strengthening their team so much that the fans seem unperturbed by this, with one supporter even thinking The Toffees were dark horses for the Premier League top four.

This is what the fans had to say:

It was neither a season to remember for Everton nor Davy Klaassen, where both struggled considerably.

He struggled to make the starting XI at Goodison Park and consequently made almost no impact at the club whatsoever.

He left the club this summer for Bundesliga outfit Werder Bremen for £12m, meaning The Toffees made a sizeable loss on the midfielder.

Everton fans will not look back on this deal fondly.
