Transfer Flashback: Liverpool fans react to Sigurdsson’s Everton move

After enjoying a second positive spell with Swansea City Glyfi Sigurdsson decided to join Everton in August 2017 in a deal worth £45 million

For a player who struggled to break into the starting eleven at Tottenham Hotspur that transfer fee seemed rather extortionate, but the manner in which he has improved under Marco Silva this season suggests he was worth every penny.

The signing was a huge statement of intent from Everton as they strived to build upon the foundations of a 7th place finish in the 2016/17 campaign, and a handful of Liverpool supporters expressed their envy over the deal.

With a midfield duo of Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum struggling to convince the supporters and Emre Can edging towards the end of his contract, the Liverpool supporters were left to ponder what might have been.

Here’s what they had to say in response to Sigurdsson’s move to Everton…

The Liverpool supporters will not be feeling too regretful over their failure to land Sigurdsson right now, but that could be all set to change on Sunday afternoon.

Everton travel to Anfield for their annual effort to end a long-standing hoodoo, and with Sigurdsson in the starting eleven the Toffees faithful will harbour some hope of clinching a famous result.

Liverpool’s alarming lack of creative spark in midfield manifested itself against PSG on Wednesday evening, and if that theme emerges once again during the Merseyside derby there is no doubt that Sigurdsson could be the man to make the telling difference.

With both a long-range thunderbolt and an incisive through ball firmly in his locker, Sigurdsson is certainly one to watch for Liverpool this weekend.
