Following the Alexis Sanchez transfer saga, Arsenal had to make a marquee signing last January and following weeks of speculation, towards the end of the transfer window, Arsenal signed Borussia Dortmund forward, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
After becoming one of the most lethal forwards in the world, Aubameyang had fallen out of favour at Dortmund and as a result, pushed for a move away from the club.
Arsenal had two bids rejected by Dortmund before having a £56 million fee accepted, making the striker the club’s record signing.
Despite having an outstanding goalscoring record during his time in Germany, some Arsenal fans weren’t exactly excited by his arrival.
Sign a player at 28 for 50plus…bad deal

In 213 games for Dortmund, Aubameyang scored 141 goals as he spearheaded one of the best-attacking teams in Europe. In his last full season with Dortmund, the Gabon international scored an astounding 31 goals in 32 games and so far in his Arsenal career, Aubameyang has continued his incredible scoring rate.
In only half a season with The Gunners, the former Dortmund man scored 10 goals in 13 games. Moreover, if he’d been available for selection during Arsenal’s Europa League campaign, Arsene Wenger may have finally lifted a European trophy at the club.
This year, he’s already scored seven goals in 12 games for Arsenal and impressively, most of the goals have come when he’s been played on the wing.
At 29, his better years are behind him and if he is going to be played on the wing, it remains to be seen how much longer he will be able to continue his high level of form. Furthermore, with Alexandre Lacazette through the middle, Aubameyang has a high-level striker to contend with for the position.
A section of the Arsenal fans may have criticised the fee that Arsenal paid for the forward but already it seems as though he’s going to pay back that transfer fee quite quickly.
