Everton have had some big players come through their doors in recent years, but Samuel Eto’o may well have been the biggest.
The Toffees signed the three time Champions League winner for free from Chelsea in August 2014. The Cameroonian legend was 33 at the time, and had just come from a fairly average season at Stamford Bridge, only managing nine league goals in 21 games.
Everton nonetheless thought that he would be a fantastic acquisition for the club, partnering the then young prospect Romelu Lukaku up front at Goodison Park.

There was so much hope for the Everton fans, but in the end, very little came of a player that was well past his prime when he joined.
In fact, the striker only managed three goals in fourteen Premier League games before leaving the club for Italian outfit Sampdoria in the following January. This was a far cry from the man that had bagged over 30 goals in a season for both Barcelona and Inter Milan.
Very few fans would have thought when they club signed the 118-cap international that he would not even last six months at the club. Unfortunately that was the case for The Toffees, in one of the biggest flops in recent times.
