Prior to the 2017/18 Premier League season, Ronald Koeman identified central defence as an area of Everton’s squad that needed strengthening ahead of the upcoming campaign.
With that in mind, the Everton manager at the time decided to move for Michael Keane following the 25-year-old’s impressive year at Burnley in a transfer that delighted supporters.

Unfortunately for the Everton faithful, though, Keane has been unable to transfer the form he showed at Turf Moor over to Goodison Park and has been a largely disappointing signing considering all of the expectation that came with his move.
And with the arrivals of Kurt Zouma and Yerry Mina during the summer, it is hard to see him retaining a spot in the Everton starting XI once manager Marco Silva deems the latter fit enough to play.
That being said, Keane’s performances have picked up since Silva was installed in the Goodison Park dugout and at the age 25, he still has plenty of time to improve.
But given how much Everton spent on the former Burnley man, supporters would have expected much more from him at this point.
