Southampton supporters have been pretty deflated in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days, what with their side only drawing 1-1 at home to Brighton on Wednesday night, alongside their team’s failed pursuit of forward Quincy Promes.
Mauricio Pellegrino’s men went into their encounter with the Seagulls having failed to win any of their previous 11 Premier League matches, a run of form which has seen them slip into the division’s relegation places. And the Saints remain there after only mustering a 1-1 draw at St Mary’s on Wednesday night, with Jack Stephens’ second half effort cancelling out Glenn Murray’s penalty in the first period to clinch a point for Pellegrino’s side.
And with the club unable to get a deal done for Spartak Moscow forward Promes in the last knockings of the January transfer window, there have been many angry and disappointed Southampton fans in the Tavern in the last few hours.
26-year-old Promes has been in wonderful form for the Russian champions this term with 15 goals in just 25 appearances, taking his overall tally at the club to an impressive 58 goals in just 115 matches.
And the Saints were reportedly keen on luring him to St Mary’s ahead of their relegation battle in the second half of the season, with Pellegrino clearly seeking to bolster an attacking department that has managed just 25 goals in their 25 Premier League games this term.
Yet the South Coast outfit were unable to strike a deal for the Netherlands international, a failure which has been bemoaned by many Southampton supporters on Twitter…

Made it clear they had a ‘Plan B’ but besides weak links for a Gaitan loan and some false rumours about Lamela they was nothing after the Promes deal fell through. Not even a sniff of a CB replacement for VVD either. Utterly ridiculous.
