Eyebrows were raised by some of the non-Tottenham Hotspur supporting punters in the Transfer Tavern yesterday.
There were quotes circulating from Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino comparing burgeoning young talent Marcus Edwards to Lionel Messi.
The 17-year-old is noted as a prodigy at White Hart Lane and has an air of excitement surrounding him, even at this ridiculously early stage of his career.
“His qualities … it’s only looks – his body and the way that he plays – remember a little bit from the beginning of Messi,” the 45-year-old said.
While the Argentine coach was not making a direct comparison between the talented teen and the five-time Balon D’oR winner, he did hint at some similarities in the style of play.
Well, the youngster certainly made an impression last night.

During his brief cameo against Gillingham in the EFL Cup at the Lane last night, the diminutive attacker embarked on a run somewhat reminiscent of a young Barcelona legend.
It goes without saying that Edwards has a ridiculously long way to go be considered in a similar bracket, though there is certainly a huge amount of excitement around him.
How far can Edwards go in the game?
