The Black Cats have a tendency to start a campaign very badly, sack their manager towards the proverbial business end of the season, only to stave off relegation during the closing stages.
In fact, it’s exactly what happened last term, when the disgraced ex-Three Lions chief wrote himself into folklore at the Stadium of Light.
