‘We will sack him in December’ - Fans react to latest reports coming out of Swansea City

The Swansea fans in the Transfer Tavern are all pleased to see that, according to Sky Sports, their Portuguese manager, Carlos Carvalhal is in informal talks with the club to take extend his stay at the Liberty Stadium beyond the summer. Carvalhal took over at Swansea just before the turn of the year with the club sitting rock bottom in 20th, although in his ten games in charge of the Swans he’s engineered five wins and pulled the club up to 14th in the table.

Carvalhal had two very successful seasons with Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship, steering the club to 4th and 6th placed finishes, but ultimately failing to navigate the playoffs. Now though, the Portuguese tactician, who studied for his UEFA license alongside Jose Mourinho, has been given his Premier League break at the Liberty Stadium and has taken it with both hands. Swansea have masterminded wins over Liverpool and Arsenal during Carvalhal’s reign and look destined to survive for another year.

The club are in danger of becoming a reactionary club, sacking a manager and bringing a new man in for immediate impact instead of letting one man instil a philosophy a the club. Paul Clement was brought in last year to keep the club up with them sitting in the danger zone, Clement did what he was brought in to do and then was subsequently sacked in December last year leading to Carvalhal’s appointment. With Carvalhal in charge, fans will be hoping for a long and successful reign as they hope to nail themselves down as one of the Premier League’s consistent mid-table sides.
