The West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been in optimistic moods of late, following the club’s recent work in the market.
Indeed, the arrivals of Marko Arnautovic, Joe Hart and Javier Hernandez have seriously impressed our resident Irons, following a pretty slow summer up until that point. Still, it can’t be all a case of incomings for the Hammers over the course of the summer.
So, the recent confirmation that promising young forward Ashley Fletcher had been sold to Championship side Middlesbrough. The former Manchester United striker only joined the claret and blue cause last summer, though struggled for much in the way of first-team minutes last term.
While the idea of seeing a talented young Englishman depart the London Stadium is never overly pleasant, the reported £6.5m fee is quite big money for a player of such little experience.
