There is no hiding the fact that Chelsea are in a mess right now.
Six straight Premier League defeats, no permanent manager in place, and a slide down to ninth have left Stamford Bridge facing another summer of upheaval.
Missing out on Champions League football is also likely to force difficult decisions in the transfer market — and it appears one of the club’s big-name defenders may already be heading towards the exit door.
Fofana Offered to Barcelona
Wesley Fofana has been offered to FC Barcelona by his representatives ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports in France.
The French centre-back — previously described as “fantastic” by former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca — is understood to be on Barcelona’s extended shortlist as the Catalan club weigh up multiple defensive options.
Reports in France claim discussions have already taken place between Barça and the player’s camp to gauge whether a move could be possible. While strengthening the left side of defence remains the Spanish giants’ priority, the club are also preparing for potential departures elsewhere in the back line, prompting them to assess alternative profiles.
Fofana’s injury record remains a concern, but Barcelona are still said to admire his raw ability and long-term upside. Chelsea, meanwhile, are reportedly open to doing business — although only for the right price.
The Blues are believed to want at least €30 million for the 25-year-old, whereas Barcelona would prefer a loan deal with an option to buy in order to limit their immediate spending.
Barcelona may not be prioritising Fofana just yet, but the fact Chelsea are even entertaining offers says plenty about where things stand at Stamford Bridge right now.
