West Ham United were thought to have held an interest in Everton’s James McCarthy this January.
It was believed that the Hammers were keen on bringing the player to the London Stadium following their own injury concerns in the midfield.
McCarthy, who has represented the Republic of Ireland 41 times, is believed to be available this January and has a number of potential suitors.
West Ham were considered to be one, however, they have allegedly decided to turn their attention elsewhere.
The Hammers, who continue to like McCarthy, are concerned about the number of injuries they already have and do not want to take a risk on the 28-year-old.
The Verdict:

Despite the number of injuries West Ham have in their midfield ranks, it is probably a wise move for them to look elsewhere.
McCarthy is a solid player and would be able to help improve the side, however, Manuel Pellegrini has already added Samir Nasri to his squad.
However, as he has not been used by Marco Silva this season following his double leg fracture, the London Stadium outfit may want to bring a player who is ready to play immediately.
