West Ham: Fans desperate for club to sign Gedson Fernandes

West Ham United are in talks with Portuguese outfit Benfica about potentially signing midfielder Gedson Fernandes, that is according to Sky Sports.

The report suggests that the Hammers are looking to secure an 18-month loan for the 20-year-old, with an option to buy included in the deal.

He has also been linked with a move to Manchester United, but it is believed that he favours a move to London due to family reasons.

It has been a frustrating season so far Fernandes, at the start of the campaign he missed five games with a metatarsal fracture and since returning he has only managed to make two starts for the Liga NOS side (Transfermarkt).

As he is out of favour he may well be allowed to leave and it seems that he would certainly be a popular signing at West Ham if they can get it done. Outside of Declan Rice and Manuel Lanzini, no one averages a better pass completion rate than him this season (he’s found the mark with 84.7% of his per WhoScored) so perhaps he could help keep the ball the better in the middle of the park. With Jack Wilshere constantly suffering injury problems, he could be a good way to bulk up the ranks.

Indeed plenty of their fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to bring the young Portuguese starlet in. Here is what some had to say…
