West Ham United are interested in signing French striker Olivier Giroud from Chelsea in the January transfer window, that is according to a report from The Sun.
The 33-year-old has been out of favour at Stamford Bridge this season under Frank Lampard, falling behind Tammy Abraham in the pecking order and starting just twice in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

But the report suggests that the ex-Arsenal man is a top target for new Hammers boss David Moyes and that the club’s board would be willing to support the Scot by signing Giroud.
The east London outfit have lacked much of a goal scoring threat this term, netting just 21 times in 19 games (BBC Sport).
Summer signing Sebastien Haller had started the season well with three goals in his first three league appearances, but more recently has bagged just once in 11 games (Transfermarkt) so they could certainly do with some competition for him.
However, it seems that the West Ham fans are split on whether or not Giroud would be a good signing. Some suggest that he would be as an experienced Premier League forward, whilst others think he is too old and that the club would be going backwards if they got him.
Here is what some supporters had to say about the Frenchman on Twitter…
Joe Allen & now Olivier Giroud linked. Husillos gone a day and West Ham already going back to their old ways in the transfer market. Targeting players that are way past their sell-by date and simply not enough. How depressing.

West Ham will back David Moyes to lead them out of trouble – with Chelsea outcast Olivier Giroud his top target – The Sun https://t.co/oJH4T5zSRy So we want to buy a player who has been rejected by every club he’s ever been at. You are a joke @davidgold

So immediately with the appointment of David Moyes my team is rumoured to be linked to Joe Allen and Oliver Giroud …. so we are officially going backwards.
Cheers @WestHam for listening 😐— Alfie. (@ClaretnNewsWHU) December 30, 2019
