West Ham United full-back Jeremy Ngakia is reportedly not going to sign a new contract at at the club, and a lot of the fan base are reacting to this latest update.
Ngakia’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season (when it was due to finish) and negotiations had stalled as he asked for higher wages, per the Daily Mail.
According to The Guardian, the right-back has refused to consider a short-term extension which will allow him to finish the current campaign that was postponed due to recent events, and it looks like he will be looking for a new club for next season.
The Englishman burst onto the scene following a debut against Liverpool in January, per Transfermarkt, and has been around the senior squad since. He was then drafted into the starting eleven for their last three fixtures, with the first one being at the end of February, so this news will come as a big loss for David Moyes.
It will be interesting to see how he reacts to this news, with his two other options currently being Ryan Fredericks and the experienced Pablo Zabaleta. Moyes will have to make the decision whether he wants these two as his options or whether he looks to the transfer market.
Fans understandably don’t want a player who is not interested in staying at the club in their current situation, as they are fighting for their lives in the Premier League, and they feel like a player in Ngakia’s situation could be a negative influence on the squad. Indeed, one even suggested he, and others in a similar position are “toxic” in the dressing room and there is no value in keeping players like that.
Meanwhile, one supporter compared Ngakia to former Iron Reece Oxford, another young starlet who ended up leaving the club early on (Daily Mail). However it hasn’t gone too well for him, indeed he has managed just nine Bundesliga appearances for Augsburg this term (Transfermarkt).
Here is what fans said following the news:

Am not calling the lad names, as I’ve said before, two sides to a story. I do think it’ll be a shame if he leaves. Not the end of the world, but a shame, nonetheless. https://t.co/pZu6BrugQR
