West Ham United’s London Stadium is set for its next phase of a reported £11.5 million makeover this summer (via football.london).
It will see a squaring off of both the Trevor Brooking and Bobby Moore stands by adding two new sections of seating which will bring fans up to four metres closer to the pitch behind the two goals and should be completed in time for the 2020/21 campaign.
Many fans have been critical of the stadium, which was of course previously used for athletics at the London Olympics in 2012. Indeed quite a few have publicly slammed the stadium, with one claiming it is “soulless” whilst another said that it is not “fit for football,” (The Guardian).
A statement released by West Ham on Tuesday about the makeover read: “Following consultation with the Official Supporters Board (OSB) to help inform the brief and an extensive process between the club and (stadium owners) E20, Arena Events Group has been appointed to develop the new seating system,” (via Sky Sports).
“Arena will deliver two new lower tier stands bringing fans closer to the pitch, many by more than four metres, with the stand being squared-off in line with a more traditional football stadium configuration behind the goals.”
However, it seems that many West Ham fans still have a negative attitude despite the planned improvements. Indeed several say it is a ploy from the owners to try and get a few on side after being heavily criticised of late (The Telegraph).
Here is what some had to say about it on Twitter…
It’s not a solution. (See link in my earlier tweet) It’s a propaganda ploy wasting time, effort and money. #GSBOUT

A whole 4 meters wow! You will now only be 96 meters away from the pitch instead of a 100 next season, exciting times to be had in the championship.
