West Ham United fans in The Transfer Tavern are discussing news that one of their striker’s has not given up on earning more caps at international level.
The Daily Mirror reported this morning that England manager Roy Hodgson was set to include Andy Carroll in his squad for the forthcoming friendlies against Spain and France.
The decision comes as a shock for many as Carroll has only just returned from a lengthy tine out of the game through injury.
Injuries to Danny Ings, Daniel Sturridge and Theo Walcott have ruled the trio out of the upcoming friendly encounters, and reports suggested that Hodgson was ready to give Carroll another opportunity to play for England once again, with his last cap awarded in September 2012.
Speaking to The Daily Mirror about his England aspirations and injury problems, Carroll said:
“That’s obviously at the back of my mind but I think at the moment I am concentrating on being fit and scoring goals for West Ham, that’s the only thing that will lead me there.”
“It was tough and it was hard being out injured. I just have to concentrate on getting back and I had my friends and family there to help and support me. It was a nightmare, a tough time but I’m over it now and want to move on and keep myself healthy.”
With around 10 players injured coming into the international period, Hodgson is being forced to look around to pick a competitive squad for the next two games.
The West Ham United fans are in agreement with Carroll and would sooner he got fit and back scoring for them, before a call up to the England squad.
