With a 5-0 thumping at the hands of Manchester City fresh in the minds of our local West Ham United fans here in the Transfer Tavern, it’s fair to say they need some cheering up. 

It’s been a dreadful season for those in east London and manager Slaven Bilic is seemingly battling a turning tide, despite all his heroics last year in the final season at the Boleyn Ground.

So, at least the January transfer window provides an element of excitement for the unhappy Hammers.

There’s little doubt that there are funds available to Bilic at the London Stadium and the means to change things around are there indeed, so perhaps the first month of 2017 could lighten the spirits of those in claret and blue.

Clearly not all of the Irons’ problems can be fixed with merely a few astute additions as their stadium move continues to raise all sorts of issues, though they really would help.

With that in mind, here are TWO deals Bilic should look to wrap up this week.

Scott Hogan

It’s easy to forget that, prior to their thumping against City, things had improved for West Ham in recent weeks.

While it still isn’t great, their buildup play is at least looking better and someone to finish their attacks is oh so desperately needed.

With that in mind, Brentford ace Scott Hogan would be a good signing.

Having wasted money on Simone Zaza, a predatory goal scorer who has risen up through the Football League really could be the man to finish attacks for the Hammers.

Robert Snodgrass

This time last year, it would have been ridiculous to imagine Robert Snodgrass (with all due respect to the Scotsman) getting into a West Ham side containing the likes of Dimitri Payet and Manuel Lanzini.

Still, the Hull City midfielder has been in sparkling form for perhaps the league’s worst side and was the subject of a failed bid from the Hammers earlier this month.

With nine goals this season already, th2 29-year-old would add some much-needed firepower to the ranks in east London.
