West Ham United have a big issue upfront as their main forward Michail Antonio is currently injured. This means that Sebastien Haller will have to step up.
There is a lot of pressure on the Frenchman, who has only managed eight Premier League goals since his arrival last summer (Transfermarkt).
This pressure has been heightened by many emphasising how big an impact Antonio has at the club. One of the pundits to recently praise him is former Premier League midfielder Michael Brown.
Brown speaks highly of Antonio:
Speaking to Football Insider, Brown said: “It looked like a hamstring or something like that.
“It was a brilliant goal last week, wasn’t it? How he got his body shape, flicked it, overhead kick. Nine goals in 10 games, it’s a really, really good stat and he’s been amazing.
“He’s just been enjoying his football – to have gone from going: ‘Oh, am I part of West Ham’s plans,’ to being the main man, that shows you how far he’s come.”
Antonio’s impact on West Ham
Not many have a reputation of causing genuine fear in opposition defences, but Antonio has, as Jamie Redknapp said: “He is frightening. Ability, skill, he scores goals. What a threat to any defence.”
He is reportedly out for a month, and it will obviously be frustrating that he is not available to play against reigning Premier League champions Liverpool this weekend. However, Moyes may feel confident he can succeed without his star man in matches against Aston Villa, Fulham and Sheffield United.
It would be great if they get some positive results from these games. If they do this, then it could make their season very different from 2019/20, in which they were in a relegation battle until the final day.
In other news, many West Ham United fans are very pleased with one key man following recent reports. Have a read who it is here!
