Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that Olivier Giroud would be a positive signing for West Ham United.
The French striker is currently contracted to Chelsea, but he has been out of favour at Stamford Bridge this season and has started just twice in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).
He has therefore been linked with a move away from the Blues in the January transfer window and the Sun have reported that the Hammers want to sign him.
Robinson thinks that David Moyes’ side need a player like Giroud and that bringing him in would be a good bit of business by the east Londoners.
Speaking about West Ham potentially signing the France international, Robinson told Football Insider: “It looks like he will be available at the moment, you can’t know the plan for sure.
“But someone of that ilk, they [West Ham] would need him, he is a proven player.
“The previous manager has spent millions and millions of pounds and they’re still no better off then went he went in.
“They’ve spent a ridiculous amount on wages on players, managers and transfer fees so they’re worse off than when he came in.
“So David Moyes has a big job on his hands, but Giroud would be a good signing.”
Robinson is right here, Giroud would surely be a positive addition for the Hammers given his experience.
Indeed, this is a player who has made 225 appearances in the Premier League for two top clubs in Arsenal and Chelsea, scoring 78 goals and providing 32 assists in that time (Transfermarkt).
Added to that he was a key player for France when they won the World Cup in 2018, starting in six of their seven games in the tournament (Transfermarkt).
West Ham are also a little thin in the striking department, with Sebastien Haller and Albian Ajeti their only recognised centre-forwards so adding Giroud surely strengthens that line-up.
