David Moyes did not make a large number of signings during his time at West Ham United, however, one man has been considered a really bizarre addition at times.
Jordan Hugill arrived at the London Stadium on deadline day in the January transfer window from Preston North End in a deal thought to be worth around £10million.
However, the striker managed to play just 22 minutes worth of football in the second half of the campaign and was sent out on a season-long loan to Middlesbrough in the summer.
The 26-year-old, who had excelled in the Championship previously, is starting to perform to a high standard once again, which has given the Hammers hope that they will be able to offload him permanently at the end of the season.
Boro would also owe the Hammers payments if they were to be promoted to the Premier League, something that Tony Pulis’ side could achieve.
The Verdict:
Hugill is one of the club’s most bizarre signings and will go down as one of the strangest deals they have ever made.
There is no doubt that the 26-year-old is a very good striker, having proven himself within the Championship, however, the decision by Moyes to sign him and then rarely use him is completely baffling.
West Ham will be hopeful that Middlesbrough decides to exercise the clause in the current agreement and finally get their winter flop off their books.
