The Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg has revealed that Armando Broja is now ‘wanted’ by Everton.
The Lowdown: Richarlison replacement?
Richarlison has moved to Tottenham Hotspur, meaning that the Goodison Park outfit will now have to try and fill the void left by the 25-year-old.
The Brazil international effectively saved them from getting relegated last season, with six goals and two assists in his last ten games in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).
He finished as their top scorer overall and their highest-rated performer in the top flight (WhoScored), so replacing him will be no easy feat by any stretch of the imagination.
The Latest: Broja ‘wanted’ by Everton
Taking to Twitter, Steinberg has revealed that Broja is ‘wanted’ by both Everton and West Ham United, and he did not travel with the Chelsea squad for their pre-season tour of America, although he could join up with Thomas Tuchel’s charges ‘next week’.
The reporter tweeted: “Armando Broja not part of the Chelsea squad flying out to America today. Striker, who’s wanted by Everton and West Ham, could join up with the squad next week.”
The Verdict: Big boots to fill
Of course, Broja would have big boots to fill if he arrives at Goodison Park in place of Richarlison.
However, he is only 20 years of age, so Everton would be buying potential rather than a ready-made senior striker.
Nonetheless, Broja still did pretty well on loan at Southampton last term, scoring nine goals and supplying one assist in 38 appearances across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
Described as ‘devastating’ in and around the goal by Albania assistant manager Sergio Porrini, the 6 foot 3 brute is regarded very highly in his homeland, so this is a prospective deal which could pay itself off over the next few years.
