According to a report by Italian outlet La Repubblica, as translated and relayed by Sport Witness, West Ham United are desperate to sign AS Roma wantaway Edin Dzeko and are ‘at the window‘ as an option for the Bosnian – coming as the Hammers now confirm the arrival of Jesse Lingard on loan (club official).
Dzeko, who has scored seven goals in 14 Serie A starts this campaign (WhoScored), is reportedly at the centre of a fallout with Roma boss Paulo Fonseca (Goal) – and the former Manchester City target man is now open to a move away from the Stadio Olimpico as a result.
Dzeko attracting West Ham interest
La Repubblica claim that the Irons are ‘desperately’ looking to sign Dzeko as a late window option, with the search for a striker seemingly going on.
However, despite GSB’s reported eagerness to take Dzeko, it is also claimed that the 34-year-old isn’t reciprocating that interest – with the £153,000-per-week powerhouse apparently not liking the option of a move to the London Stadium.
In a potential ‘slither of hope‘, as Sport Witness describe it, La Repubblica say that the prospect of standing by between now and the end of the season could ‘upset his priorities’ – with the outlet hinting Dzeko might prefer a transfer to the English capital over sitting on the sidelines in Rome.
Transfer Tavern take
This could be a development to keep watch over, and it’s arguable the former Premier League attacker would do a job for David Moyes.
Paolo Di Canio is certainly a huge admirer, with the ex-West Ham fan favourite calling him a ‘champion’ and ‘leader’ for Roma in an interview with Sky Sports recently (via Area Napoli).
Time will tell whether Dzeko reconsiders a potential move to east London, but GSB are allegedly desperate to make a move happen.
In other news: West Ham have also made this ‘exciting’ attacker a late target, find out more here.
