There is a positive update on West Ham United transfer target Florian Thauvin, as it has been reported that Marseille will have to drop the asking price for the player due to the fact he only has one year remaining on his contract, according to RMC.
The Hammers were very close to agreeing a deal last summer which was valued at around £36 million and also involved striker Javier Hernandez heading to the French side, via Tuttomercatoweb.
The move never happened, however it now looks like the club will be able to sign the player for around £20-25 million, as RMC state: “Thauvin could be sold for a price that has nothing to do with what the board was hoping for two years ago, when they were talking about £60-70m. There will not be any offers worth more than £20-25m for Thauvin.”
The Frenchman previously had a spell in the Premier League where he played for Newcastle United, but it was only a short stint with the right winger only playing 16 times and scoring just one goal, per Transfermarkt.
Since returning to Marseille, he has scored 63 times and provided 38 assists. At the age of 27, the player will be starting to come into his prime and could provide an eye for the net, shown by his goal contributions, for the Hammers who have only scored 35 goals in the Premier League this term, per SofaScore.
Wingers Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson have both been rumoured to be surplus to requirements, according to a report from Claret & Hugh, and the club clearly admire Thauvin as their £36 million bid emphasised.
The Marseille player also comes with great pedigree as he is a World Cup winner with the national side, per Transfermarkt, after their 2018 final win over Croatia in Russia, via The Telegraph.
Being able to get a player of his quality for a cut-price deal seems like a no brainer and could be vital to the club not being involved in a relegation battle again next season.
